IS ISLAM THE TRUE RELIGION? PROVE IT

Islam is the very call of the Highest Creator to the humble human being to surrender, with his will and power, to the Infinite Power and the Supreme Sovereign.

Islam is the light and the beacon that shows man where to step and how to be safe from falling into the abyss of vice. Islam is morality clothed with mercy, and mercy clothed with perfection. Islam is the course that governs life and elevates man above the boundaries of his physical appetites and animalistic whimsical desires that endanger his spirituality and degrade his morality.

Does the sun need proofs to show to man that it is there? Man can deny the existence of the sun, but it is his own problem and not that of the sun. Islam is the sun that shines in the corners of man’s life and shows him the way to happiness.

Although Islam stands as clear and bright as the sun, it gives certain signs to those whose hearts are still feeling doubt and those whose hearts are thirsty for truth.

Let’s now jump to the issue of the signs and the evidence standing in support of Islam and they are so many, so we name but a few:

FIRSTLY: TEXTUAL EVIDENCE

The evidence includes the texts that came prophesying the advent of Islam and the Prophet of Islam, whether in the previous scriptures or in the Quran; the Book of Islam.

In Deuteronomy 18:18, we find that God spoke to Moses and said to him that He will raise from among their brethren a Prophet like unto him (Moses) and he (the prophet) will speak of God. In so many other places in the Bible, we will get the names of ‘the Prophet’ in combination with the messiah and the Baptist. This Prophet is none but Muhammad; the Prophet of Islam.

Also, he is referred to in the Bible as ‘Elijah’ coming from the Arabian Peninsula. There is also a reference to the light coming from the mountains of Pharan.

The textual evidence in the previous books are also referred to in the Quran in the stories of the Jews and Christians and the glad tidings given by Jesus to his people that there will be a final Prophet coming after him whose name will be Ahmad.

In Surah 3 (Aal-Imran), Almighty Allah tells us that He has taken the covenant from all prophets and messengers to believe in this final prophet who comes with the same message that is monotheism, the true message of Allah sent with all prophets and messengers.

SECONDLY: LOGICAL EVIDENCE

The very message of Jesus and his short stay on earth show that there was a need for another prophet to come settling all issues and showing complete course of guidance for all humans. This conforms with the saying of Jesus himself that he came not to initiate something new but to fulfill.

The world, before the advent of the Prophet of Islam was in a case of a total disruption and complete disorder. There were two main superpowers that engaged in a series of wars and fierce fighting, there was no place for the weak; rather, social injustice was spread everywhere and man’s condition went, in terms of morality, to alarming levels.

This unjust chaos and total disruption showed that there was a need for a religion that could re-establish order again. This was the condition of the world when Islam came with a complete social justice system, rights and equality, illumination and morality.

THIRDLY: OTHER EVIDENCES

There are so many other evidences that Islam is a religion of truth. Among them are the following:

The Quran is the eternal message of Islam and a timeless miracle that no one can produce the like thereof. Arabs, who were masters of linguistic excellence, could not produce the like of the shortest verse of the Quran when they were challenged to do so.

Islam calls for understanding and a deep search in one’s self, in the creation of the heavens and earth and the contemplation in everything around man. Had Islam been a false religion, it would have asked man to cripple his mind and paralyze his intelligence and stop thinking about anything. (see Surahs 2:164, 6:11, and 6:95-100)

Modern science testifies to Islam; the Quran contains lots of scientific facts that were completely unknown at the time of its revelation. They were just discovered recently. This is in itself standing evidence on the truthfulness of the Quran. The Quran gives facts about the life of the fetus in its mother’s womb (23:12-14), the layers of the earth (76:2-3, 65:12), stars and planets, the fall of the rain and lots of other issues that are only known to scientists who are deep in knowledge.

There were lots of material miracles that were performed and eye-witnessed during the life-time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Among these miracles is the flow of water from between his fingers, the dividing of the moon into two pieces, his speech to a lizard which was able to tell that he is the messenger of Allah besides so many other miracles that were performed and eye-witnessed by his contemporaries.

These are but a few of the many evidences supporting Islam and showing that it is the eternal message of Allah and a religion of truth.

WILL HINDUS THAT BELIEVE IN ONE GOD GO TO HELL?

The term “people of the book” is never explicitly restricted to some defined set of people in the Quran or in something that the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said. Who it applies to is therefore up to us to workout based on the evidence available in each case which we encounter.

We must also be aware of the distinction between what is openly evident and what is hidden in the heart. In our earthly judgments we have to judge by what is openly evident.

In issues of the Afterlife, God judges us by what is hidden in the hearts. Even if Hindus as a whole are not classified as ‘people of the book’ for the sake of earthly judgments, we can never say for certain how God will judge an individual because we do not know what is in his or her heart.

We can only know what God says about how He will judge people. Anyone who believes in God and who tries to do what is right in their lives will have their reward from God. We know this from very clear verses in the Quran including.

{And they say: “None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian.” Those are their (vain) desires. Say: “Produce your proof if ye are truthful.” Nay,-whoever submits His whole self to God and is a doer of good,- He will get his reward with his Lord; on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.} (All-Baqarah 2:111-2)

To believe in God and submit yourself to His will means to believe in God without partners or rivals in His power and authority to give law about right and wrong and hence how you should live your life.

Worshiping idols amounts to asserting that there is not one morality, one system of right and wrong, but that there are many rival moralities and many different masters to serve.

How can someone be a morally good person, how can they be submitting themselves to the will of God when they are in fact submitting themselves to multiple Gods? Of course it is impossible.

This is the core of the message of Islamic monotheism. As for whether Hindus could be regarded as monotheists, it may be that some of them think in terms of one God and universal morality and in so far as they try to live by that, God may reward them.

Indeed monotheism may be in the earliest teachings of their scriptures. However, much of this material is obscured by history and we cannot be sure of the original teachings.

Just as in Christianity, the earliest followers of Christ would not recognize much of what today passes for Christianity, the earliest followers of Krishna might not recognize what is today Hinduism.

We simply do not know with any great certainty. The situation of such people who are Hindus but still on monotheism would be analogous to these people who rejected worship of idols at the time of Prophet Muhammad and held to what remained of the monotheistic teachings of Abraham.

However, it must be stressed that we can be much more certain of the authenticity of the message of Prophet Muhammad and from that message we have evidence that he was indeed a Prophet with revelation and guidance from God.

Once people know enough about Prophet Muhammad, inevitably their hearts and minds will either accept it and become Muslims or they will reject it and become insincere. With sustained rejection of Muhammad’s message, such people lose any claim to be doing what is right and they know that their rejection is a great sin.

Such people, no matter what their creed, are not part of those mentioned in the verse above who will have their reward with God.

There is a simple test to see if people who claim to be on the true religion of monotheism are indeed on it.

{So if they dispute with thee, say: “I have submitted My whole self to God and so have those who follow me.” And say to the People of the Book and to those who are unlearned: “Do ye (also) submit yourselves?” If they do, they are in right guidance, but if they turn back, Thy duty is to convey the Message; and in God’s sight are (all) His servants.} (Aal `Imran 3:20)

WHEN ACTIONS SCREAM LOUDER THAN WORDS

I wonder how much we realize the impact that our actions may have on other people. Our actions are living proof of who we really are, what we really think and what we really believe...and by our actions we are either respected or disrespected. We often fail to realize how fragile that respect really is, and how long it took to build it. But in our arrogance and haughtiness we are sometimes blinded to the fact that it takes only a short time to crumble walls that stood for so long. The reason is because by our actions, our arrogance and disrespect for others, we end up tearing ourselves down, exposing ourselves for what is truly in our hearts and in the end we are the ones that end up the loser.

Some of us may feel that they have earned respect, but if one has earned respect, one must continue to act in ways that beckon people to continue that respect, otherwise brick by brick the wall will become weak, and will eventually become nothing more than dust. If we become so arrogant that we feel we have the right to talk rudely to our elders, whether they be male or female and be disrespectful to mothers and wives - the educators of our Ummah, then we must also be ready to suffer the loss of our own respect, the respect of others and the loss of our honor, as we are no longer worthy of such position and dignity.

If by helping others accomplish goals for the sake of Allah, we find ourselves throwing this help back in face of those that asked for it...we must be ready to lose that opportunity to ever again of being asked to help for the sake of Allah, and to lose the rewards that accompany it as well. Not only in regards to Islam have we lost a true blessing, but also we have acted in extremely bad taste. In ways that many disbelievers would abhor. We must realize that we are not indefensible, we are not invincible. We must also come to the realization that in this world there are many that would jump at the chance to earn more blessings and work for the sake of Allah..many that would never feel as arrogant as we did to throw it back in the face of those that asked for your help.

If we become so arrogant, so haughty that we feel we have the authority to question others iman (faith), we must be ready ourselves to be questioned, as it strongly says something about ourselves that we would have so much arrogance to judge other people levels of faith. For anyone to assume that they know whether one has high iman or low iman, is to commit shirk, as this knowledge is only with Allah (SWT).

The only way in which to repair the damage that has been done is to first repent to Allah (SWT) and then to ask forgiveness of the brothers and sisters that our actions have so negatively affected. And then the building must begin, but we must remember that because the damage that we have afflicted ourselves with, it will take much time to re-build our wall, our respect, our honor and our dignity. We must be sincere and change our ways of arrogance, humble ourselves and make du'a to Allah (SWT) for his help, for Only He (SWT) can truly help us.

We must never forget that respect is something that cannot be demanded and cannot be forced onto others. Respect is a luxury that not can afford. Respect can only be earned, and by our actions we either deserve it or don't.
